Edward J. Plawecki, Jr. is General Counsel and Director of Government Relations.  He has extensive experience and a legal background in the areas of litigation and risk management, corporate law, labor and employment law, bankruptcy, mergers and acquisitions, alternative dispute resolution practices, international law, intellectual property, municipal and governmental law, among several other areas.

Mr. Plawecki’s experience encompasses a wide range of responsibilities which include negotiating and drafting agreements for partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, and other business entities in addition to buy-sell agreements, mergers, acquisitions, and turnaround and restructuring activities.

Prior to joining SRR, Mr. Plawecki was most recently a member of the law firm of Plunkett Cooney, P.C.  From 1993 through 2009 he spent 16 years as Vice President, Secretary, General Counsel and Director of Government Relations at Comau, Inc., f/k/a Progressive Tool and Industries Company, an international TIER 1 OEM manufacturing supplier to the automobile, aerospace, and defense industries with annual sales ranging from $500 million to $1 billion.  He was responsible for all legal, labor, and government relations issues for the company, its domestic subsidiaries, and foreign operations which include but not limited to Canada, Mexico, South America, and Europe.

Before working at Comau, Inc. as General Counsel, Mr. Plawecki served as Chief Judge of the 20th District Court and Visiting Circuit Court Judge in the State of Michigan.  Additionally, he has previously held a variety of public service positions which include four terms as a Wayne County Commissioner, Deputy Mayor, Parks and Recreation Director and member of the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority now known as SMART.  Mr. Plawecki has also held the position of adjunct professor in graduate studies at the University of Michigan and Davenport University, f/k/a Detroit College of Business.

Mr. Plawecki also currently serves as an arbitrator/mediator for the American Arbitration Association on their Commercial, Employment and Labor panels in addition to serving as a facilitator and mediator for several courts and counties in the State of Michigan.  He has lectured and presented continuing education seminars on the subjects of bankruptcy, business turnaround and restructuring issues, fraud, ADR, international law, and governmental regulatory matters.

Mr. Plawecki is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Corporate Counsel Association, American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Detroit Bar Association, and the American Arbitration Association.
