William Jefferson Black is a Director in the Valuation & Financial Opinions Group.
Mr. Black works with public companies, accounting firms, and financial sponsors on a variety of corporate transactions and related accounting, tax, legal, and financial reporting issues. He assists clients with Fair Value analysis associated with mergers & acquisitions, investments & liabilities, restricted stock & options, tangible & intangible assets, impairment testing, and other tax and legal matters. He also works with boards of directors, special transaction committees, lenders, and other fiduciaries with regard to fairness and solvency opinions, divestitures, recapitalizations, restructurings, accretion/dilution modeling, and target company valuations.
Previously, Mr. Black led the economic analysis and industry research practice at RSM EquiCo (now McGladrey Capital Markets), a middle market investment banking and business valuation firm. As a Senior Vice President and member of the executive management team, he oversaw a 35-person practice that delivered forecasts on industry growth rates, market sizing, risk factors, demand drivers, competitive forces, and economic conditions to determine valuation ranges and support merger & acquisition activity.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Black formed a 20-person competitive intelligence and marketing analysis group that advises global companies on product strategy, brand differentiation and market segmentation. He began his career at a research firm in Melbourne, Australia.
Mr. Black is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth, Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Financial Executive’s International, Executive’s Club of Chicago, and the Columbia Yacht Club. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Great Lakes.
